I was given a seed pod off a felled Moonah from Victoria Park, Queenscliff. Sitting on my mantelpiece for a year, I was drawn to the little cutting. It represents a tribute to nature, yes...but also to people, without whom many Moonahs would have been unnecessarily lost. Cast in 925 sterling, the result reignited my passion for
working with silver. The play off between organic and manmade unearthed endless hours of pleasure at my bench. Add another material to the mix and, well...still playing! Although the original organic was burned off in the casting process, a mould allows recasting using the lost wax technique. Each piece is hand formed
and finished. I have mixed up the textures and toyed with different levels of polish. This in itself testifies that the hand of man is present. To further this notion I have added latex, enamel and resin into the mix on some pieces. Working on this project: The Moonah Stand group exhibition showing at the 135 Gallery, has opened my eyes to what has been around me all along. Recently another pod from a felled beauty found its way to my bench; my Point Lonsdale playground pod.
Enough said...

Colour Code
"While the felling of the trees is truly a sad reminder of how much damage the hand of man has done over the
years, the fact still remains that nothing will inspire us more than the beauty of nature. Your work is proof of
this fact. I loved the way you have interpreted the buds, not like a plastic ribbon on the tree at all but rather a
reminder to leave the ribbons off the beautiful trees :)" Nayna Shriyan quoted in response to my web post
'Colour Code'.

JANE MILLINGTON

OIL PAINTER

Ms Millington’s oil paintings display rich texture and luxuriant colour. Intrigued by the human form, her figures are curved, intertwined and often blurred into one another. She frequently draws inspiration for her pieces from literature, carving extended passages into her canvases. This text, combined with her inventive brush and roller work, provides a wonderfully varied surface.

Her landscapes which she aptly calls “Colourscapes” have been influenced by the opulent colours of India, Vietnam and Indonesia. Her thick application of paint gives a richness and depth to the valleys and slopes of her landscapes. The solidity of the houses and the stylised skies provide a pleasing contrast to the chaos and riotous colour of the foreground crops.

Hello!

I'm primarily a Violin, Viola and Singing teacher in Geelong. I also photograph the occasional wedding, belly bump or special occasion.

Buttons have become my strange addiction over the last few years...

I will always remember spending my Saturdays with Grandma, as a kid, while Mum and Dad went to the football. I would sit and play with her tins of buttons. Sorting them into colours and sizes. Years later, I bought my first button ring while traveling through Namibia. I love it! After that trip, I knew I had to start making button jewellery.

Grandma then gave me those tins of buttons that I had played with and sorted so many years ago. I now continue to buy and search for unique, vintage, new and quirky buttons. I'm like a kid in a lolly shop!!

Find me on Facebook for my range and updated list of markets, Toosh Button Rings and Accessories.

I am a keen knitter, felter and a real fibre enthusiast based near Geelong on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. I'm a working mum, and have a wonderful daughter and husband. My etsy shop is knitonefelttwo (www.knitonefelttwo.etsy.com) and I sell handcrafted knit and felt. I love working with colour and coming up with fresh and bold designs. I love my work and enjoy using high quality materials and try to source these locally where I can particularly for felting. I mainly use 100% Australian fine Merino tops in my felted items, which creates very soft luxurious fabric.

My passion for knitting started when I was around 12 and then I started to knit again around 6 years ago and have been selling my wares over this period of time. I like to knit scarves, hats and bag and love using different styles and techniques. My felting journey started when I attended a sit and knit afternoon at Tarnwarncoort near Colac, advertised as part of the Scarf Festival program that the National Wool Museum and Craft Victoria had organised. A lady there was teaching people how to felt so I had a go and absolutely loved this new craft and wanted to learn so much more about it.

Since then I have learned a huge amount about felt and some of the many ways to make fabulous items from felt. I became a member of Victorian Feltmakers Inc and have demonstrated for them at the Sheep and Wool festival, Bendigo and I have also become a member of Textile and Fibre Arts List (TAFA). I am very passionate about knitting, felting and wool generally and would love to teach more people about how to knit and especially the magic of felting.

I have won a few awards for my work from Royal Melbourne Show 2011, Royal Geelong Show 2010, Bellarine Show 2010& 2011 and one of my wraps was paraded on the catwalk at the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show this year. I have also participated in the Scarf Festival 2010 and 2011 at the National Wool Museum, Geelong.

I love bright colours and the magic of creating fabric and wanted to create beautiful items for people to wear or display. I also choose to use local merino wool in most of my felted items and most of my local suppliers are from the Bellarine and Surf Coast area. I think its important to support local business and would rather buy good quality local Australian wool than use suppliers overseas. Much of my inspiration comes from nature and colours around me. I love the ocean and lush green forests which you can see in many of my pieces..

I have been teaching felting at a preschool where the kids made felt pictures, which was a great success. The kids had lots of fun and learned how wool from a sheep can be made into yarn and fabric as well as making a gorgeous piece of wall art. I have started to teach basic wet felting techniques at my local wool shop and have started to host felting parties, where kids or adults get the opportunity to make their own jewelry, flower corsage, pictures and other gorgeous goodies.
